Summary

Dear RCPsych Members,
I am committed to strengthening medical leadership so frontline clinicians can put patients first. The College must take a more assertive approach in advocating for system-wide solutions, ensuring clinicians have the support, resources, and influence needed to drive meaningful change and improve patient care.

My statement in full

This statement will soon be available in Welsh.

Dear Fellow RCPsych Members,
Psychiatry has been my life’s work, and I am deeply committed to advancing our profession and improving the care we provide. It is with great humility and enthusiasm that I stand for election as Registrar of the 免费黑料网.

With over three decades in clinical practice and leadership, I have championed collaborative leadership, clinical excellence, and inclusive practice. As a longstanding member of the RCPsych Leadership and Management Committee (LMC), and taking over its Chair role last year, I have gained deep insight into the College’s strengths and challenges. I am proud to be part of the College team and fully support its initiatives to improve care.

Our profession faces significant challenges:

  • Difficulty finding local inpatient beds and discharge accommodation, delaying critical care.
  • Individual clinicians left to manage high levels of risk, rather than a system-wide approach.
  • Challenging transitions from CAMHS to adult services, diagnostic delays, and unsatisfactory care for neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Inadequate resources for assessment & care of people with cognitive deficits.
  • Inconsistent access to services for eating disorders, addiction, and intellectual disabilities.

To address these, we need a more assertive steer from the College and strong medical leadership. We must empower divisions, devolved nations, faculties, and SIGs to drive system-wide change.

My Vision

A Champion for Clinical Leadership

I will ensure frontline psychiatrist’s voices are heard. Clinical leaders must work alongside professional managers to improve patient care, staffing, working conditions, and development opportunities.

A Patient-Centred Mental Health System

I will work to reduce waiting times, tackle the workforce crisis, and create more integrated care pathways, ensuring clinicians lead the system with patients at the heart.

Promoting Diversity and Inclusion

I am committed to broadening leadership opportunities and ensuring equal representation. We must foster an inclusive environment where every voice matters.

Championing a Compassionate and Relational Approach

I will advocate for evidence-based care that respects patient autonomy and preserves the doctor-patient relationship while embracing digital innovation.

Delivering Change Through Leadership

I have worked with patients, policymakers, and colleagues to deliver meaningful transformation. I have not only supported digital transformation locally but also organised international events on using digital technology to improve mental health care in low and middle-income countries. This includes optimising Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and incorporating AI to support clinical decision-making, improving care quality and efficiency. My leadership has contributed to service improvements aligned with the Long-Term Plan.

I serve as Vice Chair of the RCPsych Trent Division and an active member of the Diaspora Committee. Besides being an educational supervisor and lead CASC examiner, I support SAS colleagues in securing CESR and career progression.

The challenges ahead are significant, but together, we can shape a psychiatry led by effective leadership, enabling frontline clinicians to put patients first. With your support, I will lead with compassion, innovation, and a relentless focus on improving mental health care and professional development.

I would be honoured to have your vote and the opportunity to serve as your Registrar.

Thank you for your support.
