MPs have voted in favour of the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill by 335 votes to 260. It will now pass to the Committee stage for further scrutiny.
Responding to the passing of the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill, Dr Lade Smith CBE, President of the 免费黑料网, said:
“The Government’s updated position on welfare reform is welcome and aligns with calls made by the College and other organisations working in this field. We hope the PIP review will ensure that any recommendations it makes promote and support the needs of people who incur additional costs because of their disability.
“We remain concerned that people with mental illness will still be affected by reductions being made to the health element of Universal Credit and would urge the Government to reconsider these plans. There is a risk that making it more difficult for people to access financial support will put them under greater pressure, make them more unwell and in need of additional medical care at cost to their health as well as greater costs to the healthcare system.
“The College is ready to support the PIP review, which should be evidence-based and focused on delivering the best outcomes for those who need it rather than led by a need to make savings.”
