After four years of exceptional service, our Treasurer, Professor John Crichton, will be stepping down from his role at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 25 June.
John is leaving his position to take the role of Executive Director (Medical) at the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland.
Professor Crichton has shown outstanding commitment to the College over the past eight years, most recently as Honorary Treasurer (since 2021) and prior to this as Chair of RCPsych in Scotland (since 2017).
During his tenure, John’s significant contributions included implementing the Disaster response plan, supporting the transformation of the patient resources, and launch of the BJPsych Journals app, (resulting in substantial environmental benefits). He provided strong leadership for the publishing portfolio, co-chairing the Publishing Management Board, securing new contracts and implementing governance procedures.
John, crucially also maintained financial stability during a time of global challenges, high interest rates and international change. His key financial legacy was the creation of a 'Digital Fund' worth ?1.5m which enables the College to develop digital infrastructure, services and support for members.
The Honorary Treasurer is a vital role that involves responsibility and oversight of the College’s financial position, recordkeeping, governance and publishing.
