Professor Philip Shaw

King's Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People

Philip Shaw recently became the Director of the King’s Maudsley Partnership for Child and Young People at the Pears Maudsley Centre. He is also the Head of the Department for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London.

Previously, he was a Senior Investigator at the National Human Genome Research Institute. His research program examines the interplay of genomic and environmental factors in shaping the developmental trajectories of brain and behavior, with a focus on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a highly heritable neurodevelopmental condition and genomics will thus be important for attaining an understanding of mechanisms in ADHD.

His clinical research has three main areas of research:

  1. Defining novel phenotypes pertinent to ADHD based in the neuroimaging, social and behavioural sciences
  2. Identifying the genomic factors that contribute to ADHD
  3. Translating discoveries into tools for prognosis and into novel treatments.
