Event Information
Overview
In our current era, global man-made conflicts pose profound and heart-wrenching challenges to the mental health of those trapped in conflict zones. These deeply rooted psychological scars often neglected after the acute crises have subsided, slipping into the shadows of forgotten tragedies. Volunteering may not be a complete solution for service provision, but it brings invaluable support to existing services and fulfils a psychiatrist's opportunity to make a difference.
This conference is dedicated to fostering the development of academic capability in low and middle-income countries. Our goal is to empower these regions to build their own evidence base from the ground up, rather than imposing solutions created in high-income countries that may not fit their unique cultural and contextual needs.
By participating, you will:
- Hear from leading experts about the enduring mental health impacts of conflict and the ways we can address them
- Discover meaningful volunteering opportunities in conflict zones and international settings, providing both critical support to those in need and enriching your own professional journey
- Engage in crucial discussions on building sustainable academic capacity in low-resource settings, ensuring that mental health interventions are both effective and culturally sensitive
- Connect with a community of passionate professionals committed to advancing global mental health
- Learn about international volunteering opportunities with the UN and hear from the RCPsych International Divisions and Diaspora groups on mental health priorities in their regions
