Today, MBRACCE-UK has published its .

Responding to the findings, Dr Livia Martucci, Chair of the 免费黑料网’ Perinatal Faculty, said:

“We are deeply concerned that the number of women dying between six weeks and a year after the end of their pregnancy is rising and that mental health conditions, including suicide and substance use, continue to be the leading cause of death during this period.

“Many of these women will have been affected by childhood trauma, domestic abuse or had a family history of substance abuse but struggled to access specialist mental health care. It is completely unacceptable that those living in the most deprived areas are twice as likely to die compared to those in the least deprived areas.

“The report also shows that discrimination continues to impact the health and care of women from minoritised ethnic backgrounds. Healthcare providers should take proactive steps to address this, such as by implementing anti-racism education and training.

“It is vital that we tackle the stigma surrounding mental illness, which too often discourages mothers from seeking help and leads to them becoming more unwell before they’re seen by services.

“Women must not be left to struggle with mental illness alone as these are very treatable conditions. The Government should take on board the lessons and recommendations made in this report and ensure that everyone has access to perinatal mental health services if they need them."
